An appeal is the fielding side's request for the umpire to decide a dismissal. The appeal itself is not a dismissal; the umpire's decision is.

The scorer records the decision the umpire gives, not the appeal. An unsuccessful appeal is not recorded as a wicket.

Questions scorers actually ask

01 Does an appeal count as a wicket?
No. Only the umpire’s decision that the batter is out counts.
02 Are appeals counted in the book?
Not usually. Some leagues track them, but they are not part of the scorecard.
