The pitch is the central strip of the ground, usually 22 yards long, between the two sets of stumps. Its condition changes how the ball behaves, so captains read it before the toss.

The scorer does not record the pitch itself, but the condition can explain the scoring pattern in the book.

Questions scorers actually ask

01 How long is a cricket pitch?
Twenty-two yards, the distance between the two sets of stumps.
02 Does the scorer record the pitch condition?
Not as a scoring event. Some clubs note it in the match details.
