Innings

01

One side’s turn to bat, or one batter’s turn, depending on context. In the book, usually the side.

In most scorebooks an innings is one side's turn to bat, from the first ball to the end of the batting. In a Test, each side may have two innings.

A batter's innings is their time at the crease, from arrival to dismissal or the end of the innings. Keep the two uses straight when you read a scorecard.

Questions scorers actually ask

01 How many innings does a side have in a limited-overs match?
One each, unless a super over is needed.
02 How many innings in a Test?
Up to two for each side, so four in total.
