Retired out

01

A batter leaves and is treated as dismissed. Rare; write it clearly.

A batter who leaves the field for a reason other than injury can be retired out. It counts as a dismissal, and the batter cannot return.

It is uncommon. Write it clearly in the book, because a reader who sees "retired" may assume it means "retired hurt".

Questions scorers actually ask

01 Does a bowler get a wicket for retired out?
No. It is a dismissal without a bowler credit.
02 Can a retired out batter come back?
No. The dismissal ends their innings.
